SINGAPORE -- Ryan Aw, a 24-year-old Singaporean student, is preparing to cast his ballot for the first time in what could be one of the city-state's most closely watched general elections in a long time.

"What are the policies towards housing [and] housing prices -- that's quite important for me, for sure," he told Nikkei Asia in an online interview. "And I think, how does each party want to talk about more transparent governance [is also important]."
