SINGAPORE -- The leader of Singapore's largest opposition party said he plans to fight in the country's coming general election after a court on Monday found him guilty on two counts of lying to a parliamentary committee.

Public attention had been on whether the Workers' Party politician, Pritam Singh, would be barred from running in the election that will be held by November as a result of the court's verdict. Singapore's rules stipulate that a fine of SG$10,000 bars convicted individuals from parliament.
