SINGAPORE -- Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday announced that he will make Finance Minister Lawrence Wong his deputy, further cementing the latter's status as presumed heir to the top job.

Alongside his new position, Wong will also retain his post as finance chief and will serve as acting prime minister in Lee's absence. The change takes effect on June 13.
