SEOUL -- For many South Koreans, the tense scene that unfolded on the grounds of their country's legislature on Tuesday night was both shocking and eerily familiar.

Military helicopters rumbled through Seoul's night sky before landing near the National Assembly. There, officials said -- citing video evidence -- armed personnel smashed windows to gain access to the building.
