SEOUL -- South Korean opposition parties and independent lawmakers failed to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol on Saturday after he briefly declared martial law just days before.

Most members of Yoon's People Power Party in the National Assembly boycotted the impeachment vote, meaning the minimum number of 200 legislators required to cast ballots for the process to be valid was not met.
