SEOUL -- Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, a veteran technocrat who has served in numerous high-profile government positions, is poised to potentially emerge as South Korea's caretaker leader as the ruling People Power Party pushes for the speedy resignation of President Yoon Suk Yeol after his failed attempt to impose martial law last week.

Han, 75, has abundant experience in key government jobs ranging from finance minister and trade minister to the highly prestigious post of ambassador to the U.S. He has served under both progressive and conservative governments and was also prime minister for about a year from April 2007.
