SEOUL -- South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said on Thursday that he has no intention to resign from office, digging in his heels as the head of his own party urged its lawmakers to vote in favor of impeachment after a first attempt failed last week.

"I will confront it confidently, whether it's impeachment or investigation," Yoon said in a televised address to the nation, referring to the moves to force him from office and ongoing probes into his brief imposition of martial law. The statement marked a seeming reversal of previous comments in which he suggested he was open to a potential early exit from office.
