Support for Japan's Kishida rises to 39% as pandemic recedes

64% of respondents approve of decision to downgrade COVID-19

TOKYO -- Public support for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's cabinet rose to 39% in a January poll by Nikkei/TV Tokyo, up 4 percentage points from the previous month.

And 64% of respondents agreed with downgrading the legal classification of COVID-19 to the same level as seasonal flu, while 30% disagreed.
