TAIPEI -- An opposition candidate for Taiwan's presidency has called for better economic ties with China, while also warning of Beijing's recent economic coercion.

"As the Russia-Ukraine war still has no end in sight and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has put the world situation and economy into a more fragile balance, we must face up to the risk of war that may be triggered by cutting off communication with China," said Ko Wen-je during a speech at the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents' Club on Tuesday.
