TAIPEI -- Following Lai Ching-te's historic presidential election victory in Taiwan, Washington has sent a delegation of former officials in a show of support for the democratic island under threat from China.

Stephen Hadley, who served as national security advisor from 2005 to 2009 under former U.S. President George Bush, former Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Laura Rosenberger, the Washington-based chair of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), met Monday with Lai and incumbent President Tsai Ing-wen.
