TAIPEI -- Taiwanese Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim called on China to engage in dialogue and cease its "aggressive military posturing," while emphasizing Taiwan's self-defense efforts and civilian preparedness programs.

Hsiao's warning comes as China, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory, has intensified military pressure and coercion in recent years, and as the U.S. urges allies and partners to strengthen their defense and security.
