BANGKOK -- Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha announced his retirement from politics on Tuesday after nine years in power, though he remains head of a caretaker government until parliament elects a new leader.
Prayuth, 69, said he was "stepping down from politics" and resigning as a member of United Thai Nation, the new hard-right party that served as his vehicle in the May 14 general election.
