BANGKOK -- Dr. Thanat Khoman, Thailand's hawkish foreign minister throughout much of the Vietnam War, died on March 3, two months short of his 102nd birthday, at Bangkok's Ramathibodi Hospital.
The last of the five founding foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations who established the grouping in Bangkok in August 1967, Thanat replaced the courtly Prince Wan Waithayakon as Thailand's foreign minister in the late 1950s.
