NEW YORK -- U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has quickly become the front-runner for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, following President Joe Biden's endorsement after he announced Sunday that he would not run for reelection.

The quick turn of events has prompted many Democrats to endorse the 59-year-old Harris to succeed the 81-year-old Biden. The Democratic Party will nominate its presidential candidate in an online vote by Aug. 7, more than a week before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
