NEW YORK -- The U.S. Treasury Department wants to expand the ability to review real estate purchases by foreign buyers near military bases, with a proposal Monday that would extend this authority to more such sites.

The proposed rule would let the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) examine any such purchases near a net total of 56 more military sites across 30 states, for a total of 227 sites under its jurisdiction.
