WASHINGTON/NEW DELHI -- U.S. President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed at a White House summit Tuesday to strengthen security ties in light of an increasingly assertive China and rising terrorist threats.

They expressed concern over maritime territorial disputes in the Asia-Pacific, most likely with China's claims in the East and South China seas in mind. They agreed to boost cooperation in maritime security to ensure the right of free navigation.
