NEW YORK -- U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced new sanctions against Moscow for what he called "the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine."

Washington joins European allies in responding to Moscow's deployment of troops into two pro-Russian separatist regions of eastern Ukraine. Speaking from the White House, Biden condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions as a "flagrant violation of international law."
