BEIJING/NEW YORK -- China's support of Russia over the Ukraine conflict at the United Nations on Monday brought a rift with Western nations into sharp relief as Beijing gauges the U.S. response.

China's U.N. ambassador Zhang Jun, speaking at a Security Council meeting on Ukraine, called for "Russia's legitimate security concerns to be taken seriously and addressed."
