Japan prepares fresh defense and infrastructure aid for Ukraine

No weapons, but communications systems likely to be included in package

TOKYO -- Japan will start preparing to provide defense equipment and infrastructure assistance to Ukraine, aiding the country's economic reconstruction through a new framework designed to strengthen the security of partner countries.

The Japanese government will consider transferring military communications systems to Ukraine, in addition to repairing military and civilian seaports as well as airports there. It does not plan to provide arms for use on the front lines.
