NEW YORK -- The U.S. and U.K separately said Monday that they will impose sanctions on Russia in response to Moscow's "breach of international law and Ukraine's sovereignty," during and after an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.
Ahead of Monday's session -- called at the request of the U.S., the U.K., Albania, Ireland, Norway and Mexico -- U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said: "We must all stand with Ukraine in the face of this brazen attempt to usurp Ukraine's sovereign territory. There can be no fence-sitters in this crisis."
