BRUSSELS -- The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is considering additional financial sanctions on Russia, Nikkei has learned, as the White House moves to prohibit U.S. banks from dealing with Gazprombank, a major Russian lender that plays a key role in energy transactions.

The U.S. has notified members of the Group of Seven nations that it will decide on the measure by the end of this month at the earliest, multiple sources, including high-ranking European Union officials, told Nikkei.
