India's Reliance Jio tops Airtel, Vodafone in 5G auction spending

BENGALURU -- Leading Indian telecommunications company Reliance Jio Infocomm has purchased nearly more airwaves than rivals Airtel and Vodafone combined in the country's maiden auction of 5G spectrum beginning last week.

India sold about 70% of the 72 gigahertz of airwaves put on the block for 1.5 trillion rupees ($18.9 billion), Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.
