A Chinese glass tycoon's dream to build a world-class university

Billionaire's plan has been brewing for years

Billionaire entrepreneur Cao Dewang speaks at a forum in Shanghai in early 2019. He’s now pushing to build a university to address China’s shortage of skilled manufacturing managers. (Imaginechina via AP)

At the office of his Heren Charitable Foundation in the Chinese city of Fuzhou on Dec. 6, 75-year-old Cao Dewang was full of energy. Next to his desk stood the final model for the design of Fuyao University of Science and Technology. He told of his plan for the 212-acre campus.

In the model, the open, elegant campus is surrounded by water with no walls, connected by bridges.
