TOKYO -- With only about two months until the Nov. 5 U.S. presidential election, senior policymakers among the major powers are busy analyzing the likely direction of U.S. diplomacy after 2024, with a particular focus on Washington's policy toward China.

Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has provided few clues about her stance on China, as she has not fully outlined her views on the country. In a closely watched speech following her acceptance of the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August, Harris mentioned China only once. In contrast, former President Donald Trump referred to China 14 times during his speech at the Republican National Convention in July.
