TOKYO -- U.S. allies in Asia and Europe may be deeply concerned -- even frightened -- by the potential implications of Donald Trump's return to the presidency. However, they have little choice but to find common ground with the new administration and seek ways to turn his unconventional approach to diplomacy into an advantage.

The key lies in Trump's stated goal of "making America great again." A strong and dynamic America would ultimately be more advantageous to its allies than a declining one. By supporting his initiatives and seeking to be part of his broader vision, U.S. allies can take an important first step toward fostering mutually beneficial cooperation with the Trump administration.
