TOKYO -- A race to pick the successor to Indonesian President Joko Widodo is about to start later this month with three candidates. Widodo, popularly known by his nickname Jokowi, is set to retire next October as mandated by a constitutional two-term limit.

The contenders are Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, former Central Java Gov. Ganjar Pranowo and former Jakarta Gov. Anies Baswedan. The high-stakes election in the resource-rich nation will take place next February.
