ABU DHABI -- Israel and Hamas have agreed on a temporary cease-fire starting on Friday after weeks of hostilities killed thousands of people.

While the outcome of the situation remains to be seen, the Middle Eastern war that began with the surprise Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7 has shaken the world, with nobody appearing to know how much it will escalate.
