SEOUL -- An anti-communist slogan posted on Instagram by Chung Yong-jin, vice chairman of South Korean retail giant Shinsegae Group, caused an uproar early this month, pitting the country's liberal and conservative camps against each other over policy toward China and North Korea.

His remark drew condemnation from the liberal camp, which values ties with China and North Korea, but won praise from conservatives, who call for a stronger alliance with the U.S. The dispute has highlighted the divide in South Korean public opinion.
