TOKYO -- Many Asian leaders are likely watching with concern as both the outgoing and incoming U.S. presidents take steps and make remarks that seem questionable for the leader of the world's sole superpower.

The incoming president, Donald Trump, continues to spark controversy with provocative statements, including plans to acquire Greenland and the Panama Canal, rename the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America," and make Canada the 51st U.S. state.
