TOKYO -- The East Asia Summit, which puts Southeast Asia in the driver's seat in discussions with leading global powers, is one of the most important of more than 700 meetings hosted by ASEAN each year.
The gathering brings together representatives from 18 countries, including the U.S., China, Japan, India and Russia, and symbolizes ASEAN's vision for "centrality" on the diplomatic stage.
