BEIJING -- The Chinese government under President Xi Jinping is running out of options to stimulate the world's second-largest economy.

A prolonged real estate slump and depressed consumption are the biggest factors behind the current slowdown. Many are calling for fiscal spending or monetary easing, but those avenues face significant constraints.
