TOKYO -- Hitachi has developed a finger vein-based biometrics authentication system to enable the user to check-in to a hotel or make payments at shops without a credit card or a smartphone, Nikkei has learned.

The user only needs to place a finger over the reader, and the machine will identify the user and obtain the necessary information, such as the credit card number or personal information such as their age or vaccination records. The information is displayed on the screen of the tablet connected to the system.
