China dashes travel blitz hopes for Golden Week

SHANGHAI -- Shanghai banker Duan Ming hoped to get away with his family as China's Golden Week holiday kicks off one of the country's biggest annual travel-and-spending blitzes.

But, like millions of others, the frustrated father will stay put again this year as authorities warned against travel over fears of an embarrassing COVID-19 outbreak before a key leadership meeting this month.
