TOKYO -- Japan's foreign business community on Wednesday amplified calls for the government to reopen the border to students, business travelers and new entrants.

Representatives speaking at a news conference held by the European Business Council in Japan asked the Japanese public to consider the reputational costs of staying closed, including the loss of foreign investment and students who could supplement the country's shrinking workforce.
