TOKYO -- Japan expects to have received enough of Merck's COVID-19 pills by next week to treat 340,000 people, with some shipments set to arrive weeks ahead of schedule, health minister Shigeyuki Goto told reporters on Friday.

The country already has received 250,000 oral courses of molnupiravir. Of a batch originally set to arrive in late February, 50,000 courses will now arrive Friday and 40,000 courses are anticipated on next Thursday.
