MANILA/JAKARTA -- The Philippines and Indonesia have hurriedly imposed travel bans and other restrictions in response to concerns over the spread of the new COVID-19 variant, omicron.

The Philippines on Sunday added Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland to its "red list," barring travelers from those countries until Dec. 15. South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini and Mozambique were put on the list on Friday.
