TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo confirmed 143 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, marking the highest rate of increase on record, metropolitan government officials said.

Meanwhile, the number of people with the pneumonia-causing coronavirus who have died in Japan topped 100 on Sunday, according to a new tally.
