HONG KONG -- More than two dozen Hong Kong politicians and top government officials, including the city's immigration chief, were ordered on Friday into a spartan quarantine facility at Penny's Bay on Lantau Island after they were exposed to suspected COVID-19 cases at a birthday party.

The mass quarantine, which sparked a flurry of apologies from the officials concerned, comes just days after Hong Kong's government tightened virus restrictions following an outbreak of the highly-transmissible omicron variant traced to Cathay Pacific airline crew.
