HONG KONG/SINGAPORE -- Hong Kong says it will allow tokenization of securities and regulated funds as it attempts to bolster its standing as a global virtual asset hub.

The Securities and Futures Commission issued a circular on Thursday laying out guidelines for regulated intermediaries such as fund managers to issue tokenized securities, which the commission describes as "blockchain-based tokens that represent or aim to represent ownership in an investment product."
