TOKYO -- Japan is poised to categorize cryptocurrency assets as financial products under the law, expanding the scope of insider trading restrictions to include such assets, Nikkei has learned.

The Financial Services Agency plans to submit a bill to revise the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act to the parliament as early as 2026. It has been considering changes to the current legal system through closed-door study group meetings among experts.
