TOKYO -- A type of cyberattack that overloads a network with data rose to an all-time high in Japan last month, industry data shows.

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting Japanese businesses jumped about 60% in December compared with a year earlier, according to a survey by the Japanese unit of Akamai Technologies, a U.S.-based cybersecurity company.
