TOKYO -- Japan's government will create a unit assigned to protect ports, railways and airports from cyberattacks as early as fiscal 2025, Nikkei has learned, aiming to bolster defenses for critical infrastructure and enhance economic security.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will include plans for the team in its organizational and staffing request for fiscal 2025, which begins in April.
