How the IMF's wayward Asia forecasts improved

Calculations for India and China thrown off by global financial crisis

LONDON -- In its latest World Economic Outlook report, the International Monetary Fund identified India as the world's fastest-growing emerging economy. Other Asian countries, notably Pakistan and the Philippines, were also highlighted as rapidly expanding economies.

But the IMF's track record, particularly in the period following the 2008 international banking crisis, raises certain questions over how much faith to put in the latest figures.
