TOKYO -- The percentage of women working as information technology specialists in Japan is on the rise. In 2021, women accounted for 22% of all IT engineers, up 7 percentage points from a decade earlier and putting Japan at par with the U.S. and Europe, an important accomplishment for a digitization laggard that has long suffered from a shortage of high-tech workers.
Women are now in a position to shore up the laggard's competitive edge.
