TOKYO -- Even as Japan's labor shortage continues to deepen, many temporary and other contingent workers are struggling to find full-time jobs.
In 2022, only 7.4% of nonregular workers -- those sent by staffing agencies or hired on short-term contracts -- secured full-time positions. A wide pay gap between regular and nonregular employees has helped depress the overall wage level in the country.
