COP26 enters final negotiations as draft decisions reached

Despite China and India resistance, parties agree to keep global warming to 1.5 C

TOKYO/LONDON -- After two weeks, negotiations at the COP26 climate conference in the U.K. entered a tense final stage on Wednesday, as the United Nations published drafts of two key documents.

The parties committed to the target of limiting global warming at 1.5 C above preindustrial times by the end of the century, as included in the draft documents, despite resistance from China and India.
