TOKYO -- Japan aims to make carbon capture and storage (CCS) a key part of a national energy framework to be unveiled in the coming months. The government is targeting 2030 for the launch of commercial operations.

Nine Japanese business groups are planning to conduct pilot projects, mostly in Japan and Malaysia. "We hope to see one or two of them get off the ground by 2030," said Masaki Tone, head of the CCS division at Japan's Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.
