OSAKA -- Japanese companies are preparing to roll out new carbon-capture technologies designed to slash the cost of removing carbon dioxide from industrial emissions.

Materials group Nitto Denko will spend roughly 2 billion yen ($13.6 million) to manufacture separation membranes, which remove CO2 from emissions before it is released into the atmosphere. Mass production is due to start as soon as next year.
