NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga  -- Sea levels in parts of the Pacific are rising twice as fast as the global average, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Tuesday as he called for G20 nations to "step up to drastically slash global emissions."

"A worldwide catastrophe is putting this Pacific paradise in peril," Guterres said, adding that increased flooding threatens to cause "trillions" of dollars in damage to communities around the globe and wreak havoc in the Pacific.
