Japan preparing to release Fukushima water into sea from August

TOKYO -- Japan's government is preparing to begin releasing treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea as early as August now that the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog has given the green light for the move, Nikkei has learned.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's administration plans to explain the release soon to the local community and neighboring countries, where concerns have been mounting over the safety of the step.
